Una Duo was formed with the goal of expanding the repertoire of duo literature for the marimba and piano. Since the history of piano literature is far greater than percussion, both Jeff Calissi and Rebecca McNair Calissi have commissioned, composed, and arranged music by placing both the marimba and piano on equal footing in melodic and technical material. |

Nathan Daughtrey, The Old Pond -- Written on the occasion of Nathan's grandfather's 90th birthday. Meant to capture and reflect on the many wonderful memories of fishing with his grandfather using bamboo poles and live worms in the old pond behind his grandfather's house in rural Southern Virginia. Originally composed for solo piano, the piece was re-imagined for marimba and piano at the request of Una Duo. Sample: The Old Pond Jeff Calissi, Undercurrent -- The duo's flagship piece, conceived as a basis from which the duo could grow in repertoire. Although the piece does not employ any particular programmatic techniques, it has been commented on several occasions that the melodic structure is reflective of waves and water, in an undercurrent of activity. Sample: Undercurrent |
